The NHS website will now enable those aged 34 and 35 to book their first vaccine appointment today. The NHS will also contact through text and letter to encourage people to book their appointment via the NHS website.
The news comes as 7/10 UK citizens have had at least one vaccination, with the NHS delivering 48.5 million injections so far.
Younger people in their thirties are expected to be invited for the vaccine the following days and weeks.
A surge vaccination drive was also announced yesterday after a sample of water was tested in North Tyneside and showed the Indian variant of COVID-19 was found. More data on the Indian variant will be released in the following days.
National NHS Medical Director Professor Stephen Powis said: “The success of the NHS COVID-19 Vaccination programme, the biggest in history, is not by accident but down to careful planning and precision by NHS staff who have now delivered 48.5 million doses across England in less than six months.
“Getting the vaccine is the single most important step we can take to protect ourselves, our families and our communities against COVID-19, so when you’re called forward, book your appointment and join the tens of millions who have already been jabbed.”
