Wythenshawe Hospital temporarily relocating paediatric emergencies to Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital

From Tuesday 7th April 2020, Wythenshawe Hospital will relocate all services for paediatric emergencies to Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.

Wythenshawe emergency department will not accept paediatric emergencies from today.

Ambulances will divert to Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.

There is an increased need for critical care at the Wythenshawe during the COVID-19 crisis, hence the above measures.

Parents, guardians and carers must take children to the Paediatric Emergency Department, Oxford Road, Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, M13 9WL.

The Wythenshawe stress the importance of NOT taking children to their emergency department.

Further updates will be made when the paediatric emergency services and Starlight Children’s Unit at the Wythenshawe are reopened.

Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust on the crisis measures said:

‘A necessary step to ensure the Wythenshawe Hospital capacity continues to meet additional demands for adult Covid-19 patients.’

Adult emergency admissions are NOT affected.
